Kara Knott received her 200 hour yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Institute of Yoga, in Lenox, MA in 2011. Kara chose this training because of the lineage’s belief that yoga can be made accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability or experience.
She is grateful for the education she received in both yogic philosophy and asana but also, and perhaps more importantly, how to assist the student in the development of compassionate self-awareness. It is from this space of non-judgmental witness consciousness that yoga begins to grow in the body, translating to the unveiling of the true self.
Most recently, Kara has had the opportunity to apprentice with Sarah Oakley in pre and post natal yoga. Kara was inspired by the amazing work Sarah is doing for mothers of all stages and was helped tremendously during her own pregnancy, birth and labor by Sarah’s guidance.
As a mother of a toddler and newborn, Kara understands how critical education, support and community is to help usher women through pregnancy and into motherhood. Kara is committed to her path as a birth-worker because every woman deserves the support she requires during this period of tremendous change and transition. Kara promotes a positive, yet honest dialogue about the current perceptions and experiences of pregnancy, birth and mothering. Through the practice of yoga, mothers of all stages can cultivate the empowerment required to connect to their instincts and to experience fully the joys and struggles of motherhood with an open heart.
Kara transmits her joy of life by incorporating fun and experimentation to her yoga classes. By endeavoring to live in the present moment and cultivating a sense of playfulness, the student develops a yoga practice that can clear away all that has been layered over the true self, clouding the inherent divinity. From a strong foundation in anatomy and alignment Kara guides students to explore posture adjustments that work best for their bodies in that moment. Students can be expected to be both challenged and reassured as they practice.
Kara believes that everything you need and desire dwells within our body’s infinite intelligence. Yoga’s focus on mindful movement, when paired with meditative breath is the most effective way to unite your spiritual intelligence with your human consciousness. Come practice prenatal yoga with Kara and experience for yourself how these theories have direct application to pregnancy, labor and birth and motherhood.
