Acupuncture—Acupuncture involves the insertion of single use, sterile, and very fine needles into specific points on the body. The insertion of needles is relatively pain free. Following the insertion of a needle, there may be an achy, heavy or warm sensation at the needle site. While discomfort is possible, acupuncture is not meant to be uncomfortable.
Herbal Medicine—Chinese Herbal Medicine involves creating a customized formula based on the patient’s chief complaint and body constitution. Each case is unique and specific to the person. Formulas consist of a combination of minerals, plants and animal products. There are three methods to administer herbal formulas—raw, granular, and pill form. Raw formulas are consumed via water decoction and granular formulas are similar to a tea. Herbal formulas offer therapeutic benefits in conjunction with acupuncture treatments.
Eastern Dietary Therapy—Nutrition is an important aspect in Tradition Chinese Medicine. Consults involve an extensive health intake, food journals, with a full dietary assessment. Eastern Dietary Therapies differs from western nutrition because it encompasses energetic properties of food.
Other Care—Acupuncture treatments are not limited to only the insertions of needles. Other modalities include moxibustion (heat therapy), cupping, gua sha, and tui na (Chinese medical massage). Education on lifestyle changes are also available, and that includes meditation, Tai Chi and Qi Gong exercises. Many patients report to feeling very relaxed during their treatment, and will often times leave the office feeling relief from their symptoms.
